Shaoxing, China, December 8, 2019 – Imoco Volley Conegliano captured the gold medal of the 2019 FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship by beating former champions Eczacibasi VitrA Istanbul 3-1 (22-25, 25-14, 25-19, 25-21) at the Shaoxing Olympic Sports Centre on Sunday.
Imoco Volley Conegliano coach Daniele Santarelli: “We are very happy to know that our team came out very strong. In the first set we felt pressure but in the second set we made some changes and replaced one player. Everyone in the team played very good.
“We are happy for this win because this is for the club and they have worked a lot for this experience. We want to thank the supporters of the club.
Imoco Volley Conegliano captain Joanna Wolosz: “What a World Championship! It was our dream to win this Championship. It was an amazing tournament. At the beginning, we showed our power. We are glad we could win this tournament, which is one of our goals. We think we deserve this. Our players played excellent. In the first set we had problems and in the second set we tried to push on the service and did very well in block and defence.
“I am so proud of our team because we could see that all throughout the tournament we played with 14 players on the court and showed that we are a great team. We want to thank the staff for the support so we could have a very good preparation to fight against our opponents. This is our first World Championship and we are very happy. I also want to thank our fans because they supported us. From Italy to China it was a long trip so I want to thank them for cheering for us all the time.”
Eczacibasi VitrA Istanbul captain Kim Yeon-Koung: “Conegliano played good volleyball today. They deserved to win this tournament. Actually we couldn’t’ start well in the first and second sets. We were not good in defence and block. We couldn’t defend well against Egonu and she played really good. She was big a problem for our defence.”
