Shaoxing, China, December 8, 2019 – Vakifbank Istanbul bagged the bronze medal after beating Igor Gorgonzola Novara 3-0 (26-24, 25-23, 25-21) in the 2019 FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship at the Shaoxing Olympic Sports Centre on Sunday.
Vakifbank Istanbul coach Giovanni Guidetti: “It was a difficult match for both teams. We both lost yesterday, and we fought like crazy. I’m proud of my players because it is not an easy match to play after yesterday’s loss. They entered the court and played well, and we made it. We are very happy. We have a new team and we have a lot to resolve. We have players born in 1999 and 2000 so we are in transition.”
Vakifbank Istanbul captain Ebrar Karakurt: “We are very happy. Yesterday we lost the game 3-2 to Conegliano but after a good training, we came back winning today. We are happy because we finished this tournament with a good result.
“This was a great match. We played a great game. We played well together and we did our best to win the game. Our opponents here are very strong and this match gave us a good opportunity to practice, improve our skills and also see our shortcomings. We will continue to work hard.”
Igor Gorgonzola Novara coach Massimo Barbolini: “We tried to play as good as the other day. We enjoyed a good tournament in China. We are happy about what we did here. I hope we can continue this way.”
